Rear QTR Window malfunction

Rear QTR Window malfunction
I pressed the roof button to roll down the rear quarter windows on my `03 XKR Convertible and heard a bad sound...like nuts and bolts falling down. The right rear window will not move now. I can hear the window motor turning but the window looks like it is trying to go up when I push the button to roll it down and down when I push the button to make it go up. I have not had the time to get a look at the mechanism. Has anyone had experience with fixing these rear window malfunctions?

Sounds like a problem I was having about a year ago.
The most likely culprit is that the plastic bracket that holds in place the steel wire that winds up the window and actuates the regulator broke. That's what happened in my case.
Because I ignored it for the better part of a year the wire kept getting more and more tangled each time I opened and closed the roof. I remember it was a bit of a hassle getting the window to hide or to come back out.
One day the window hid nicely but then I couldn't get it back into position when I closed the roof. That day I decided to mend it. So after a couple of hours of removing panels and squeezing my hands in there I saw the problem. I grabbed my pliers and cut the wire. Then I started untangling it until I could remove it. That freed up my quarter window. Now, I was free to open and close it by hand. To make my life easier, I took some lawn trimmer wire and tied it to the regulator. That way I could pull the wire and close the window after closing the roof. I hide the wire to prevent people on parking lots from noticing.
I haven't gotten around to buy a new part because I don't know the part number, the name of the part and I'm afraid it's expensive. I've had some other more important things to fix on the car, so I figured I could put up with manually opening and closing that window. I've been lucky that no prying eyes or thieves have figured it out yet.
Now, I'm not saying you should go ahead and cut the wire. I think having cut the steel wire means I have to buy an extra part.
