Default Something Exploded

While driving 60 mph on freeway I heard a loud burst under car on drivers side. There was a seam split on something and a lot of white residue all on underside of drivers side. Does anyone knows what happen? Thanks LA

The only thing in the seat I could imaging bursting and making a noise might be the inflatable lumbar support.

Have you tried inflating or deflating it?

Sorry, I misunderstood. When you said seam I thought you meant something in the seat.

Did anything else happen when you hear the noise? Steering get heavy? Any warning lights come on? Low coolant message?

You say that "a seam split on something." Can you be more specific, maybe with a better photo?

Seems more likely that you ran over something with liquid in it, rather than something exploding on the vehicle. We all know what liquids are on-board, and none of them are "white" on a properly sorted car.

Did a prior owner fill the rockers with illegal substance?

Question

Is that what the split panel is the "rockers" and the residue is maybe something illegal?
The former owner lived in the LA area and car sent here for sale in 2007 with only 37,000 miles on it, maybe I should investigate more...Will take a closer picture and attach.
Thanks

That "plate" is a heatshield. Maybe there was a bag tucked behind it.

Your car just depreciated in value ... a lot

I'm not that familiar with the underside sheet metal, but no the rocker panels are the part under the door sills. Did you dare to give the white substance a taste? If you ran over something, it hit pretty hard. Nothing in there to blow up.

I backed over a bottle of car wax in the garage once and it exploded a lot like that. Harmless enough, but boy what a mess!

I "nudged" a gallon can of leftover paint once backing out of garage. Never felt it, luckily saw the off-white pool spreading across floor as I backed out. Fortunate, so I could clean it up right away from floor, assorted mops and brooms, and most importantly the tire, before it could fling it op onto to car driving off. Spray can theory sounds good to me.

Good luck to you cleaning it all up. But that panel, or heat shield, how would it get bent up like that? Could it have been that way before?

Steve

Ouch! reminds me of the time I had the old o-ring still on the oil filter housing when I did an oil change and ended up with 4 quarts on the driveway after backing up!
I'm sure we've all had our epic messes.
