Default rear trunk effort

The truck on my XK8 is extremely heavy to lift. I have tried new gas shocks but no help

When poping the truck release it opens maybe 1/2"

Is this just the way it is?

What brand lifts did you use? Some lifts are really crummy. The OEM is Stabilus, IIRC. Mine were weak, I replaced them with OEM and it was a night and day difference. The trunk lid just pops up a bit when the release is pressed, but it opens very easily with just a bit of upward pressure.
