trying to help a friend out lost his manual. batt went dead cant seem to find out where key goes for manual trunk opening?also he teels me you cant open the trunk or gas fill door unless engs off and key is out of ignition? with batt dead i used a jump pack on to pos cable at under hood fuse box.ign off and key out would not open trunk or gas door.but i was able too start car with jump pack cked charging voltage good. next ? ileft the car runnig so he could charge the batt after this runs for awhile do you think that mode will reset?and trunk will open? thanks for any help

 

Keyhole is hidden between 'X' and 'K' on XK8 logo on the trunk lid or on XK8/R logo plate on trunk, depending on which year and model.

 

Be advised the lock will probably be stuck so you will need to squirt some lube in it. I had to apply some downward force on the trunk lib also to get the lock to release.

 

Can't open gas cap, true, but you CAN open the boot (trunk) with ignition on and engine running.

 

For MY2003, the trunk key hole is on the right side of the car. It is in the 4.2 emblem, just left of the wording. And yes you can open the trunk with key in ignition as well as running.

 

Don't ever jump start from the positive terminal under the bonnet.
You were lucky to get away with that.
You can charge or use an external battery to operate the boot lock from those terminals.

 

I have a 2005 XKR convertible. After wondering how to get into the battery if it was flat I found the key slot in the XKR logo but could not get the key in. Now I found the car has the mechanism fitted in the trunk and the key fits and works. The problem is the hole in the XKR logo is about 1 inch (25mm) out of line with the mechanism inside the trunk. The key hole should be about the centre of the X. The only option is going to be to move the logo to the right as it seems to be in the wrong place (even though it looks OK) Anyone tell me how the logo is attached or experienced this issue before? The badge is originally attached with 3M double sided tape. However, as there's evidence of remedial paintwork, it could have been glued back on.
