Default Reduced Performance Error Message

OK, what did I do ( or didn't ) when I took a perfectly great running car and ruined it? At 70K miles I decided to replace the gas filter on my 2000 XK8 with a Mann filter, (not the easiest thing to do). After starting the car it ran fine for about 30 seconds and then stalled. For the next 30 minutes I made multiple attempts to get it running smoothly with "Reduced Performance" errors messages. Currently it starts fine, then goes to < 500 RPM, stumbles, shakes, and stalls with no throttle response. I checked the fittings and found no gas leaks. At this point I believe I introduced air into the injector system, but don't know if that's the real reason. Has anyone run into this before and is their a valve or hose I need to open to allow the air to bleed off. HELP....
Thanks
Kurt

There's nothing special to do re bleeding.
You can wrap some rag round the Schrader valve on the fuel rail and press the valve stem down with the ignition on - you should get a pretty good squirt of fuel.
If not - have you got the filter on the right way round (sorry...)?
If it looks OK + no fuel at the Schrader can you put the old filter back on ?
It is extremely unlikely you've caused any permanent harm.
Let us know how you get on with these simple checks.

Sorry, the error message is Restricted Performance, not reduced, but same effect. The Mann filter is marked out which is facing the engine. I can try bleeding the line at the at the valve and see if I get any air coming out.
Thanks

There are O rings on the fuel lines where they attach to the filter - have you checked for damage or displacement?

I did not notice any O rings on the old filter and none came with the new one. The fuel lines were just flanged, so metal to metal contact. Still trying to locate the Schrader valve.
Thanks

Thanks Gus, if I depress the valve while cranking the engine over gas "should" come out at a good clip, correct? I'm hoping I will get a "burp" of air causing my problems.
Thanks
