Default Removal of Denso alternator pulley?

I'm up to replacing the brushes on my 141k mi Denso alternator.

While I'm in there, how hard is it to replace the bearings? Will the pulley come off using an impact wrench?

Thanks again,

Dan

Wink Removal of Alternator

I can't answer your question, but I just replaced mine with a rebuilt unit because when my Hi pres oil cooler feed hose ruptured it bathed it in oil and it started making very unhappy noises. Anyway, getting it out is a chore if you haven't done so yet. You can't even see the upper bolt..it is 10mm, you'll thank me for that as it is hard to even feel. After you unbolt it from the bracket, you have to unbolt the bracket from the engine. Then push it out of the way. Oh, you may also have to remove the idler pulley if I remember correctly. Then you have to unscrew the oil filter adapter/threaded fitting with a large metric hex bolt using the head as a large allen wrench, clamp the bolt with a vice grip and unscrew the fitting. The alternator will then just clear, with twisting and turning, the engine craddle and carefully slip past the machined oil filter seating surface being careful not to gouge it. I was wondering myself how to get the pulley off since there is no internal hex in the shaft as on an Delco unit. Good luck, Tell me how when you get her done.

Impact wrench will loosen the pulley, no problem.
