Default Replace CATS with standard shocks

Has anyone ever replaced the adaptive shocks with standard shocks? I know you can get a kit to do this with the XJR but I have not found a similar kit for the XKR. As these cars age it will become increasing difficult and expensive to maintain the CATS system.

BTW, about how long do the adaptive shocks last before they need replacing on average?

You don't need a kit. Just unplug the module in the trunk so that it doesn't display a code.

I just bought an 03 with 106k on it and had to replace the rear shocks. The adaptive's were minimally more expensive. It's the labor that kills you.

I have the same question. I have a 2004 XKR and the 20" front wheels bottom out on the inner fender lining when I hit a big dip. The car has 58,000 miles on it and has the CATS Bilsteins. Has anyone replaced these with Bilsteins or another shock? I'm quoted a price of about $467 per shock with the CATS. Plus, the plate with like an elastic polymer sandwiched in between, that is like a rubber grommet on most cars, costs $161 each to replace, not including labor. Is it a difficult job to replace the shocks?
Thanks,

john

Mine have a 130k on them and are still working as far as I know, the lower bushes do wear out and need replacing though.

Depends on you experience and tool kit, it is a labour intensive job and can be dangerous if your spring compressors slip, but if your are used to working on cars it is not difficult.

Default shock mounts

So, I take it both shocks use the same type shock mounts and bumpers?

That would be my guess, but it is only a guess.

By both what do you mean, Front and back? the Answer to that is no. Measure center of wheel hub to arch, it should be 15.5" or so if lower you are sagging for one reason or another.

Adaptive shocks were almost 3x the price of non so the guy above got one hell of a deal or they were going to way overcharge for regular shocks. I've replaced my adaptive with standard Blistiens but I did replace the springs with a stiffer rate to compensate to keep a firmer ride.

IF not done already front and back will need top mounts (front it the pancake mount, back are just bushings).

Where did you get the front pancake mounts? Is one made that is sturdier than the OEW mount? Did you have to remove a fuse from somewhere to keep the trouble indicator from going off? How do the new shocks ride?

I measured my ride height in front and it was 14.5" and is supposed to be 15.5".
I'm told the pancake mount in front probably collapsed after 58,000 miles. That is likely why the wheel bottoms out on the inner fender shield over large dips. The OEM mounts are around $170 each plus installation. Has anyone found an after market mount?
Thanks,
John

There are too many threads on this to provide one here, do a search for shock mount, I believe there are 4-5 diff ones to choose from. Good luck.
