Can anyone advise WHAT stereo head will fit as a replacement for the 'standard' unit in a 2000 XK8?
Ideally, I'm afer one that has a flip-out screen that I can use as a Sat-nav.
The XK8 unit is bigger than a normal stereo head and I don't want to hack around, or 'bodge' something to fit.
If there isn't a unit that's the same size, with a 'reasonably' easy fit, I won't bother.
Roy.
Last summer installed a jvc single din unit. I read some posts here about swapping bezels with other jags. In the end I had a spare arm rest so I used the plastic off that. And with a dremel tool sized and cut. It came out pretty good. I would do a search and find that thread. The Jag radio is not a din or a double din that I can see, its non standard ( of course !!!) . Some people just install a single din unit without a bezel as the way it looks is not to bad but I wanted it to look a bit neater. Good luck with the install if you go ahead. I am glad I did as I had a standard system and wanted to play cd's as well as mp3's via usb port or aux jack. Upgraded the speakers as well and it was well worth it.
One the FAQ thread, find the link to a DIY install with parts needed - jag OEM - for any single din radio to fit, just find a flip out screen you like, but consider the climate controls being blocked :-)

Could the climate controls be moved to where the stereo sits to allow for more room?

At least one other person has moved the controls down to accommodate a new head unit above (this isn't my car, just one of the many photos I have collected over the years). Try and avoid using weird Chinese junk off ebay and get a decent brand like the Alpine unit pictured.
You can but an adapter plate to fit single DIN head units, and a cable interface that connects between the two connectors in your Jag and the new head unit.
An interface for the steering wheel audio buttons is also available.
Be aware that there are several different cable interfaces, it depends on what type of audio system that is in your car.
A single din unit with a 7 inch flip out screen will fit ..you remove the radio ..slides into the same hole and you make a trim out of the old radio facia. You only need to move the screenforward with on finger to access the controls behind
I have written it all up if you do a search.
You can also go with what a few of us on here have done and install a Joying 8.8 unit. The screen can be put in place of the Satnav / 3 gauges, but does require some cutting if using the gauges panel. A member on here has made a 3d print mount solution for the satnav panel.
