I currently have a loose Cup Holder "Flap", and I know that I need to have it replaced if I want to to stop opening when I hit a small bump. I have been looking for a replacement that has an open cup holder without a mechanism. I found a few that have elastics that go around the existing arm rest, but would like to have one to just replace it instead. I'll but the Elastic band workaround if there are no options. Also considering making one from scratch.
My understanding is that this part is compatible with the armrest in the X100 and has no integrated cup holders. I've seen at least one person on the forums take one of these, re-upholster it and put in a couple of boat-style recessed stainless cupholders:
I replaced my console lid with a non-cupholder one, and bought a boating “pontoon cupholder” I found on Amazon (NLA) in a very similar finish to the oatmeal interior. I removed the bottom “fin” and originally thought I’d mount that in the middle of the rear “seat” behind the center console, but after a few unsuccessful attempts, I now just jam it on the floor between the back of the driver’s seat and the front of the rear seat.
Unfortunately that cup holder door and latch is exactly where my arm wants to rest. Even though mine is in fine order, would love to get an armrest without it.
I find that the space between the seatbelt buckle and side bolster holds my water bottle just fine.
Who here dislikes when items move while driving? Smile.
If you just go for the plain arm rest, there's this style of cupholder which is popular in the mx5 community
There's cheaper alternatives of similar design out there. https://mossmiata.com/910-965-mcc-cp-dual-cup-holder

I do the same thing! And I always go for the passenger seat side bolster. I deleted my cupholder half-heartedly when it broke, but I haven't replaced the arm-rest yet with a non-cupholder arm-rest. It's in the To-Do list.
