Hello, Jag enthusiasts. I have a dumb question: The right side view mirror on my 1998 XK8 somehow swung in while I was driving, and the mirror broke. (I GUESS that's what happened, anyhow -- I heard a loud bang while driving and, about an hour later, I discovered the broken, folded in mirror.) Anyhow, only the glass was broken, and I bought a replacement mirror. I tried to remove the glass and base from the rest of the unit, but I was nervous about detaching the two wires. They are held onto the base with rubber thingies, and when I gently tugged on the rubber thingy to detach the wire, I got some resistance. I was afraid to pull harder, in fear that I might tear or break something. So that's the dumb question: How do I detach the two wires from the base - do I just pull them off?

There's a harness connector and fixing screw which must be accessed from inside:



However, if only the glass is broken, I would just change that.

Thanks, but that wasn't the question. Guide simply says "disconnect [mirror from wires]" Question was HOW TO DISCONNECT - just pull?

 

I am only replacing the GLASS. I cannot disconnect the WIRES.
