Default replacing vacuum CC with electric CC ??

Hi, After trying everything suggested and consulting several expensive mechanics, it now seems impossible to get the vacuum cruise control working on my 1998 XK8 so I wonder if its possible and feasible to ditch the vac system and replace with the electric system used in these cars after 1998 ? If this is a feasible conversion, are parts around and has anyone done this ? Thanks in anticipation for your advice. Cheers, Alfaguar

I don't recall the exact details, but seem to recall that I had a similar problem with the cc failing. My 97 would often fail after being engaged for a while, and then finally did so after about fifteen minutes, usually under load. I determined that the problem was due to the wipers under the end cap not making good contact with the carbon traces in the cap. I bent the wipers to increase the tension, cleaned with contact cleaner and the problem was gone.

If this is hard to follow, let me know and I'll do a search for the thread.

The early CC system does look like a plumbing nightmare, but I doubt it's practicable to retro-fit the later all-electronic version.

The throttle body is a different animal, and you would need the later ECM from the AJ27 to drive it, but then that at the very least will be expecting continuous VVT rather than the on/off of our cars.

I wonder if you may have throttle body issue, but I see that you had a replacement fitted relatively recently. Can you read the OBD codes and post up? If you're getting restricted performance I'd expect something to be recorded.
