Default Restricted Performance - Heat Related?

I've had the dreaded "Restricted Performance" pop up a few times lately. I know I need to pull codes (and I will, I just have to borrow a reader) but the message disappears pretty quickly, so I was wondering what you guys thought of the circumstances.

The message has popped up on me three times within the last few weeks and every time it has been the same circumstance. Temperatures 100+ F, high humidity, I push the car a little hard (temp gauge never climbs) stop for a half hour for lunch or something, then go to fire the car up (which sat outside in the hot sun). The car fires up, but idles a little rough and a little low (~700 RPMs). Once in gear the car seems fine for about a block and then the light comes on. A few blocks later and the light is off and everything is back to normal. I can drive the car the next day and nothing seems to trigger it except this. Is this just a symptom of the extreme weather and starting the car again after it sat without time to cool?

It could be a number of things. Get the codes it is the only sure way to identify the problem.

I figured that would be the response. The car is going to the body shop in the morning to fix the vandalism, so I'll have to wait (im)patiently for that, then I'll have to pull codes.

I had a similar problem getting the restricted performance code on a hot day turning a corner sharply and hitting the gas.... turned out to be a very clogged fuel filter. And after replacement... performance improved quite a bit and no new restricted performance messages.

I am getting the Restricted Performance every now and then and it did not post a code. I plugged in my OBD reader and began driving; it came up twice P0333 Knock sensor.

check the SC intercooler fuse under the hood on passengers side by latch
its a 15A fuse that typically blows...all I did was replace mine and all is great...simple enough to check!

The XK8 doesn't have a S/C so there isn't a intercooler pump and fuse.

I'll give you my wife's answer to every car problem: "It must be the universal joint. That's why they call it 'universal'."

Gus - - - Could be. The funny part is that several times she's been right. Gets a little smug about that. But then, her odds have been pretty good over the years since a Corvette has more u-joints and u-joint problems than most cars.

I tried to post a reply but I got an invalid thead message. Long story made short, if you get a check engine light along with restricted perf start by cleaning the MAF, 7$ and 10 to 15 min fix. Good luck!
