Returning Member switch from XJR to XKR with problems
When I replaced my connector sleeve because it was leaking, I drained about 3 litres of oil out of the pan. 4.2 litres is a lot to have gone missing from a leaking sleeve. It makes you wonder how is what driveable as that oil drained away over time.
I had always planned to do a full fluid /filter change if I was able to, a. get the car running under its own steam, and b, getting the gearbox to show signs of improvement. So tI will do a full fluid and filter change, plus change the electrical socket to stop the origin of the leak.
As my car has the Mercedes box, where can I purchase the connector. I am assuming that it isn't normally supplied with a gearbox fluid service kit?
Thanks in advance for your help
Hi, i bought a kit off e bay. It had everything, the oil, trans filter, sump gasket and electrical connector. You will need a new plastic locking tab for the dipstick tube. Also ebay or mercedes , only pennies. All genuine mercedes and came with an invoice from mercedes newcastle. You can buy the items individually also. I sheared a sump bolt and bought one of those on ebay too. Do a google search with the gearbox code. 722.6 or W5A580 Loads of info and help as it goes in so many vehichles. As i said just take care fitting the electrical connector, one of my o- rings had moved and it wouldnt seat properly at first. I removed the cat support bracket to give myself more room but others have reported swapping it without . The sump bolts have a spacer on them which i believe prevents overtightening, but take care if they have been in there a while. The parts from mercedes arnt that extortionate. You may have a drain on the torque converter. Some do some dont. If you have then that will potentially allow you to do a full fluid change. I couldnt find mine so will do a fluid only swap again in the summer. Plenty of info out there and a very doable job. Id do it when you dont need the car though just incase you have any hiccups. Let us know how you get on.

SNG Barratt has them. Beware of buying any 722.6 transmission parts off of eBay. Even if the box says Mercedes the part is likely counterfeit.

I was totally fooled. On eBay I purchased a conductor plate (holds all the solenoids) that had the Mercedes box and even Mercedes logo on the part. But too late I found out it was 100% counterfeit.
Now have spurious “Transmission HOT” warnings on the dashboard randomly. Even when the engine / transmission are stone cold. If I hadn’t thrown the original plate away I’d reinstall it.
Treat your original parts like gold.
another good source for 722.6 parts is PelicanParts.com They are honest.

The transmission fluid specified by mercedes is only £6/7 a litre for the genuine stuff from mercedes. In my mind not worth buying anything else. The plastic dipstick tabs are less that£2 from mercedes or buy a pack of 5 on line. I would advise having some spares but upto you.
I would have bought everything from mercedes direct but they want a merc reg number so it was as essy to get it on line.
As always do your due dilligence.
