Default rusty strut brace

I need to take this off to refurbish, this end looks ok but the other end heads in towards the bulkhead and is hidden from view. Anyone taken the off before?

Just a guess but maybe the area where the windshield wiper motor is mounted.

Remove the wiper scuttle and it bolts to the bulkhead very easy to remove, I replace them with aluminium and stainless ball joints

I actually have a convertible in bits at the moment and can take a pic of the bulkhead if you wish

Neither my last 2001 XK8 nor my current 4.2 has these braces fitted. The lack of a suitable sized washers in your pic suggests an aftermarket or PO addition.

The braces were only fitted to convertibles.... I have seen many rusty sets, they are only tubular steel with a light powder coating, they can be fitted to coupes but not as standard even though the fittings are there

If you follow the strut brace you can see the torx bolt holding it in place just below the windscreen, this fixing is the same as convertibles and coupes

Funny coincidence about this forum as I was going to ask the same thing about the strut in terms of where it attaches to at the bulkhead end. I have a noise that sounds like two blocks of wood being knocked together when I go over speed bumps that the mechanic suspects is an upper wishbone bushing. But I have heard that it could also be a loose strut/brace. The struts braces on my car seem tight where they connect to the shock tower but I wanted to get a look at the other end. So is it very difficult to remove the wiper scuttle?

Thanks,

Doug

Pretty easy, remove the wipers, under the plastic caps on the scuttle are a few self tappers and along the top edge, remove these and where the fender meets is 1 more either side..........
