Seat belt buckle - plastic "stop" button for latch travel
When it rains it pours. Yesterday I got in the car and reached down to grab the seat belt's male latch to buckle in. Huh?, nothing -it wasn't there. I felt around trying to find it.
There - it was down by the floor, I never saw that before. Guess I got out too fast or something, I thought to myself.
Bad news, next time I got in the car - same thing. This needed a closer look.
Then I saw it. There is a plastic button shaped "stop" riveted into each of the 4 seat belts in our cars. It prevents the sliding latch from moving too far. Somehow the button fell off the belt!
Good news, I quickly found the button, but it looks like they used some kind of plastic rivet right through the belt and the button to secure it. That rivet broke off leaving part of it in the belt, and the rest in the center of this button.
When I started to type this I was at a loss, but I have to admit, the 2nd time I typed "rivet" i thought to myself, well i guess I can just use a metal rivet to reattach it. I'd have to find a thin one, hopefully no sharp edges would show.
Mind if I ask: does anyone have any better ideas?
Thanks for your thoughts,
John

A different idea, perhaps not better, is a plastic pop rivet. I've never seen one that small, however. For me, many things are successfully held together by epoxy, is that a possibility here (epoxy the center pin)? Final idea is a plastic welder (weld new pin to cap, stick through other side and other cap, weld and cut pin), but unclear what the material is.
Search 'Seat Belt Buckle Anti Slip Stop Buttons' on eBay. Available for a few cents in several colors.
Also available at some Advance Auto, but only in black and more expensive: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...357/22148079-P

My problem with the seat belts is reaching behind the seat to find the belt. O.K. maybe I am getting lazy(ier) in my old age, but past cars had a 'hook' on the seats to hold the belt near the front edge of the seat. Has anyone found a solution to keep the belts closer?
