The driver seat bolster is looking worse for wear and since the seats are out for the seat belt anchor welding it is a good time to sort them out.
I opted for the system from the "Furniture Clinic" as I've used it before on my 450SL and it seems to be lasting well.
The damage.

First the old surface protection and as much of the old paint needs to be removed, the furniture clinic sells a special remover, but I think its just cellulose thinners, much cheaper. You also need an abrasive pad and some alcohol.

Mask up.

And protect the rest of the seat.

I then scrubbed the problem area with the thinners and the abrasive pad, a lot of the old paint came off but plenty remained. I finished off with the ethanol, wiping off all the lose material.

Once completely dry the next step is to wipe on a thin coat of the new paint with a sponge for the first coat.

Then spray on 3 of 4 thin coats with an airbrush, ensuring each coat is fully dry before the next.

I used a hair dryer to dry it off between each coat.

I will let that fully dry overnight and spay on the sealing coats tomorrow.
