So my passenger seat will only decline the back rest and will not bring it back up. It makes no noise when I try to bring it back up. After checking the forum I decided to switch the driver side control module with the passenger side to diagnose.

When I got under to take out the passenger side module I found that the bracket was missing and someone had zip tied it in. Furthermore it looked like someone had pulled on it at some point to get it out because the top portion, to which the bracket connects to, was busted where the bolts are supposed to go. It has a date of 20/06/01 and my car was built 06/01 so I am pretty sure this one is an original.

I took out the driver side and it was bolted in as it was supposed to be and had a date in 2003 on it....

I did the switch and magically my passenger seat worked as it should.

So I have a bad seat control module. Both modules had a part number of LJE2160AB/XXX. I looked around online and found a few that were pretty pricey. I found some on ebay that look identical but are for XJ8s part # LNC2160AD/XXX Will these work? Any suggestions?

 

Will the dealer from whom you bought the car cover any of these types of issues for the first 30 days or so or was it basically "as is no warranty"?

There is a limited 30 day warranty that covers major issues like engine transmission etc. Plus I discovered it at the dealership. I worked it into the deal as he gave me more money for my trade in than I hoped for.

 

I just took it apart and it looks like someone spilled something on it at one time

 

Only a day or two of ownership and you're already tinkering with repairs. Way to go and welcome to the club!

This is interesting, I have an 06 that I bought last year and the passenger seat module was hanging by one bolt, the other was broken out of the plastic module case. I JB Weld-ed it back together but I wondered how it got damaged like that. The bracket is simple and easy to remove, why would the bolts be broken out of the module? Thsi is the only damag4e I have found on the car, strange.

 

My 2002 XK8 drivers module case was also all cracked and the passenger side was fine. Since this case brakes apart all the time you would think you could buy just the case. It also says Ford on it.

 

My guess is that the location of the module under the front edge of the seat makes it vulnerable to being kicked with a heavy foot on exiting now and then.

That makes sense if the bracket were still there. My bracket is missing so it makes me think someone just pulled on it and removed the bracket later. I guess you never know really.

My drivers seat just stopped tilting, in a rather leaned back position...
I pulled out the module, and had a quick look at the circuit board, and it seemed clean and dry no sign of any problems, so I was just struggling to strip the seat frame to get to the switches, which was somewhat daunting ( Factory Fitted Reccaro seats), when I thought I'd have a peruse around the forum to see if anyone had any clues as to how to get to the switch mechanism.
I found this thread and on following the link from this thread to Gus's website, I decided to take a closer look at the circuit board, and lo and behold on the top right hand corner of the board, there was a 'mark' on the circuit track.
Much tentative scraping of varnish with a scalpel, and use of a magnifying glass, showed a clear break in the copper track. Now at 55 with failing eyes and shaky hands, I really doubted my ability to solder a fine wire in place to bridge out the problem area, but I'm pleased to say I managed it, and it WORKED...:-)
So once again I'd like to say thanks to the users of this forum, you've saved my bacon once again..

You can't just buy the case but you only have to buy the LID.
Look at TSB 419-17 and call a Jag dealer for
C2N 3565. They have been available since 2005. Stop complaining about solved problems (sometimes Jaguar 'has your back')

 

I had a bad seat module on my 2000 XK8 convertible. I verified it to be a faulty module by switching it. When I took the module apart I found that the printed circuit board's ground track ran very close to the edge of the case so the case top would wear on the circuit board track. This wear broke the track. I was able to solder a jumper wire around the broken area and this fixed the module. I believe the cause was that the case was too small for the printed circuit board, so it would fit under the seat (very tight quarters). I have photos of the module if anyone is interested. How are the seat switches connected to the seat? My driver's side switch pack is broken in the front where it connects to ???

Is there some sort of plastic frame that the switch pack snaps into? If so does anyone have a part number or a way to fix this?
