Default Seat module component

My driver seat module did not work, on my '97 XK8. So, I interverted it with the passenger module, and it is ok. Now, I'd like to fix the first module. When opening it, I saw that a component was burnt out. It fell in dust when touching it, so, it is unpossible for me to see what component it is, unless I open the working module, which I'd better avoid.
Looking at my attached pics, can anybody help me find that component's réference ? It is circled in red on my pics, and is written "RV1" on the board.
Or if somebody can have the module electronic diagram, I will like it too.
Thanks

It is an S14K14 Metal Oxide Varistor (surge protector) http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...4649-ND/651244

If it is blown to dust chances are there was a awful big surge that damaged other circuitry also.

Wow.....

Surge, or long term high current draw causing a high amount of power dissipation. Could it have acted as a fusible link, perhaps a motor was left on? There's a chance the module is still workable, but I'd question what caused the draw.

It's there to try to clip too high a voltage down to a bearable one. Should never have needed to, so something bad happened. Definitely should not have died in the process so something very bad happened. Jump started/charged carelessly? (Flashing sparks during disconnect/etc)

Thanks to all of you !
Your answers are very usefull.
You surely are right, something wrong must have caused the surcharge...
I'll replace the component, and see what happens. If it still does not work, I will try to find a new module.
Have a good week end.

This component just sits across the power rails and its function is to provide a short circuit to quench abnormally high voltages. It is purely a protective device and since it is in parallel with the circuit, its absence will not cause the module to malfunction.

Bottom line is there is something else wrong with your module, this part alone will not fix it.

Well, I see...
I'll show my module to a friend who is an electronics specialist.
