Seen Oil By overhead reading light button
I have a 2000 xk8 convertible and noticed a small amount of oil on my overhead reading light button. The hydraulic line for the top was replaced 4 years ago at a Jaguar dealership and I have not used the top since July 24th. I live in GA and it has been very hot this summer.
The only thing I did was to lower and raise the rear windows.
Is there an easy way to get a look at the connection? Does anyone have any ideas of why this may have just happened.
Thank you
Brian

It could be nothing more than old oil that has migrated that was not cleaned up from the previous episode 4 years ago....or....you could have another leak. It could be the hoses or the hydraulic actuator. It probably would be a good idea to inspect them, as well as the level in the pump tank.
What is the best way to inspect the hose and fitting? Do you remove the overhead reading light cover and if so how do you remove the plastic assembly?
Thanks
Brian

You may need a small mirror and light to see the problem but you will need to remove the plate where the roof latch is located. Use this link and go down to the 10th & 11th photo.

Thank you the pics are great. I will pull tomorrow and see what I can see. Is there a replacement kit that you can replace just the fittings if they are leaking since the hose was replaced only 4 years ago?
Thanks
Brian
Thanks

Sorry, no. The entire hose, and you should do both if only one is leaking, must be replaced. Jaguar tried splicing and that didn't work.
Too much time in the Georgia sun. Hose failures are not common in the mother country because the sun never shines. You are ahead of the game by living in sunny Georgia even with sun damaged hose problems.

I pulled the top cover, thank you again for the pics, very helpful!! The hoses and the area around and under the two hoses are bone dry. The only place I can see any oil, very very little, is directly under the hook that pulls the top closed. Everywhere else is completely dry, including between the block the hoses go in to and the hook.
I have not used my top in over three weeks, I just used the door key twice to lower the rear windows and then the top up/down button on the console to close them. I saw oil on my reading light on/off button the day after I did that the second time.
???????
Thanks again
