Default Severe blowby

I had performed the TSB regarding the part load breather cleanup with the tiny drill bit, however, I still have severe blowby. I guess I have to clean the bore...

What is the bore? How do I clean it? What do I need?

The part load breather is cleaned with a 3/32" drill bit, but that isn't going to cure blowby. It sounds like you have a serious engine problem. What does the airbox and intake tube look like on the other side?

I assume you mean the throttle plate and throttle body 'bore'. Cleaned with a TB spray cleaner and perhaps a cloth. The edge of the throttle plate and where it meets the bore is the critical part. The rest is appearance only. Careful that you do not leave several ounces of the cleaner at the bottom of the TB.

Well isn't that scary sounding RJ. My intake tube is broken, but I have a new one coming. The airbox looks decent, the intake tube has a film of oil in it.

Test point, I've done that, I even removed the TB as well when I cleaned it. That didn't cure blowby. I'm beginning to dread the thought of some heavy engine work. Could my piston rings be toast? I'm guessing I should get a compression test.

My part load breather hose is broken and I ordered a new one.

Reading about compression tests and piston rings is really scaring me. I'm starting to think I am not going to be able to fix this.

Change the oil and use 10w-30 and add a can of restore to the oil.

Is 10W-30 thicker than the 10W-40 I have now? I'll definitely try the Restore. I've read about it in a few threads I have seen regarding blowby.

A friend recommended trying 5W-50. Is that acceptable? It is basically summer all year long here. Which oil viscosity would be best?

Is the engine using much oil? Give the restore a try first. I use 10W40 year round, my cars never sit outdoors in cold weather and my garage never gets below 50 deg. 5W50 sounds extreme, but it is warm in PR so it may work.

If you have an owners manual look at it for the oil type and temperature ratings for your car. I have reservations on moving up past the 10w-30 grade oil.

In spite of my skepticism, the can of restore seems to have erradicated my blowby problem. I'll keep a watchful eye on it in case the problem comes back to haunt me.

My blowby had come back a couple days after using restore. I finally mended the broken part load breather hose because I got tired of waiting for the new one to arrive. Lo and behold: my blowby is gone, and my P0171 and P0174 have not come back.
