Default Shifter Trim Plate Replacement

Hi,
Any one tried this replacement shifter trim plate on Ebay item # 300939438886 for $55 plus shipping.
It is laser cut aluminum and look Ok, certainly better than the cracked plastic on my car.

Here's a couple of pics from the listing (that reference number will disappear after three days):

I've seen several posts about cracked plastic like yours and this is certainly a whole lot cheaper than a new assembly.

Well, I ordered one, its better than the $150 or so for a used shifter assembly that may still have a cracked trim plate. The local Jag dealer wanted $340 for the assembly, the trim plate is not available on its own. I will post once I have received the trim plate and and it is installed.

I'm certainly intrigued. Let us know how it looks. I'm having the same problem with mine. Aluminum does look better than plastic, but I don't see if there is much illumination for the PRND32 in it.

For $55 bucks tho, I'd take it. I see yours was the only one on Ebay. Ask the buyer about where he got it. I want one for my car!

I also contacted this guy, so far he doesn't have a model for the 6speed ZF boxes.

I have taken my shifter assembly apart, done complete measurements and taken detailed photos though, with this information he he should hopefully also have a 6sp plate ready soon.

The Ebay seller is gilbert3009. I'm sure he will have others available. Got to be better than the plastic version. I may try the Duplicolor black chrome spray system on it. I have used this on other shiny bits and it looks cool....

I contacted the seller and there are plenty available for sale. They just go on Ebay one at a time.

Too bad he didn't elect to attach with sticky tape vs. the screws... really like the look of it otherwise. Does look better with the chrome surround shown in the eBay listing. My surround doesn't have screws, is flimsy black plastic that doesn't attach well. Are the chrome surrounds from later years/models and are they retro-fittable?

The seller just contacted me and said that he completed the 6speed plate according to my measurements and pictures, and he will send it straight away.

As soon as it's here, I'll take some pictures of the installation.

Is it just me, or is the factory trim plate really of sub-par quality, with a bad finish and bad material? Mine looks like it has been through a few nuclear wars.

Maybe the seller would accomodate a "no drilling" request. Less work for him and you get what you want.

It might be that jog to the right going through "R". Instinct says just pull it straight from "P" to "D", but when you do that, you can see the parts flex.

My theory on that plate is that most previous owners didn't treat it very well or respected it, dropping things atop it and scratching it. Mine is 10 yrs old and looks great.

Mine cracked from the R all the way upward. On my car it looks like the shift lever bumps that side of the slot lightly as it is moved. And no, it wasn't disrespected. I have a 99.97 point car as judged several times. No doubt they missed the crack though.

The plate really should have been made of metal like the high end manufacturers use... like Honda and Dodge.

Mine is cracked in multiple places. From the screw to between the R and the P, between D and 4, the 4 fell off! I think the previous owner wasn't as kind to it as me.

I contacted the seller. He said they'd have new stock in about 5-10 business days. He gave me the prices and also let slip that they're working on a black anodised aluminium version which he thinks will be stronger than the other aluminium one. Now I'm torn, should I get the black one or the silver one?

Steve, ye have little faith in my claim that she looks just as good as she did 4 years ago? You would have the memory of an elephant! Soooooo, I took a quick pick early this morning. Straight from the camera too, I just brushed off the dust with a soft towel.
