A very fast, very beautiful, and very timeless car that I know I would have loved as my daily driver. The only reason I did not do so was because I could not come close to justifying it financially....

It's interesting that you speak of being timeless but wants to trade in a S-Type for a CLS. The S-Type is the timeless design. Not the Mercedes. This 4 doors low roof thing (no they are not coupes) will look so played out and dated in a few years. The Mercedes is already looking dated today. As soon as the new generation starts becoming common on the road the 2014 will be just another old Merc. While the S-Type will march on with its classic and elegant design. I will be buying a S-type in the near future for sure. Beautiful car and no saloon out of Stuttgart, Bavaria, Ingolstadt or Wolfsburg can even start to compare, unless you are talking 40's, 50's 60's classics. The S-type is the timeless design. Look at how dated Audis, Mercedes and BMWs from the same time period look in comparison. So will the the new ones in 10 years.

Yep and here they are cabs too. So even less special.

There are about two dozen Mercedes, Audis and BMWs parked at cab stops at any given time of the day.

On BMWs -Very true = everyone does have a Bimmer but I've always wanted one and I didn't get just get a regular one. Its the 550i with a V8 along with the sports package - better handling and suspension than the regular ones. This beast produces 360 hps also so it moves when you want it to!

All that aside - I don't get nearly as much compliments as I did driving the Jag but that's what weekends are for now! Sunset drives with the top down = life is good! Cheers all!
All joking aside, it is indeed nice that you are not getting rid of the XK for a BMW and the BMW will be just your week beater. But for that I can think of a few better and more reliable cars than a BMW. Do BMWs have a reputation for reliability over there now? Here there's definitely not any special reliable reputation.

The Jag is such a pleasure to drive and just admire its looks. My winter beater is a 2006 Toyota Avalon with 40,000 more miles on it than the XK8. But, the Jag needs constant repair of one thing right after the other, while the Avalon only needs oil changes and windshield washer fluid. I still prefer the Jag and drive it only on sunny days. Enjoy your Beemer.

Why on earth should you feel guilty? If you want to downgrade to a lesser car then its up to you. I bet you have changed jobs recently too. It's also wrong that people should assume all hairdressers are gay and drive BMW's.
So drive your BMW and take no notice of those that knock you.

Yes, awful like asopao.

For that matter, we krauts (Sauerkrauts) are known for special taste.

But if asked in a general car forum the answers would probably not be too different from here.

Thanks, Jeagar - your OCD must be similar to mine...

Don't think I've ever really regretted any of the cars I've bought over the years. First new Ford was a nightmare (until replaced by dealer), the X5 was naughty in its first year or so, but has been brilliant ever since and Mrs H still won't countenance replacing it.

We choose our cars to fulfil a particular wish or need, whatever that may be and there isn't a right or wrong. 'De gustibus non disputandum est'

If the sausage is what Gian describes then the donor really needs to seek help

Should you feel bad ??? OF COURSE mate !!!

In years past, the Britts would have had you in chains bound for Australia. Along the way, the sea captain would have had you flogged daily with the dreaded cat-o-nine-tails and you would have been dumped in a country of limitless sunshine, glowing beaches and beautiful bikini-clad women . . . while the poor Britts slithered about in the Beast from the East, under miles of snow, muck and where their idea of a beach should be mined for rocks and roadbase. LOL.

So, be a Braveheart mate. Yell from the rooftops of paradise -
"You'll never take my freedom !!!"

Enjoy the bimmer . . . lot's of common folk do . . . coz you still have that dazzling X100 to redial the smile on your dial.

Cheers,

Ken

You take that back. Asopao is amazing, specially in cold rainy weather.

Pasteles on the other hand, I really don't get how people can eat those.
