Default Side marker bulb replacement procedure - how?

Guys, this one is not so easy to find. Let me please ask for your help:

How does one get to the side marker bulb(s)? Do the markers snap out or do you have to fish around from behind?

I've just spent 20 minutes searching = nothing useful, so this answer will help the next guy too.

Thanks,

John

John,
There's a small metal clip at each end. Push the lens sideways from one end and gently prise that end out with a trim tool or similar.

IIRC the bulb is a wedge type the same as for the number plate.

Remember this is 20 year old Jaguar plastic

Crawl under there so you can get your eyes within a couple of feet of the bulb assembly. Much easier to remove (and re-install) when you can easily see what you are doing. And as previously warned, be careful under there and take your time. That old plastic is likely to crack on you if you just barely breathe on it....

These might help. You can also push the entire assembly out from the inside - my tech did this when the car was on the lift for a different repair. You'll likely find that water ingress into the socket area has caused it to rot. Replacements are available - since this is a common problem there are several threads on the topic.

Default Johnken the Side Marker Man!

Johnken,

The fastest way to do this is to push your finger between the Fender and the Wheel-well material parallel to the side-marker and push on the little Metal-Tab that's on the end. This will release one-side and then you can pull it out through the hole in the Fender.....

According to the condition of the light, you might need a new one....They are about $65.00 Bucks @ Jaguar...but you can get them cheaper on eBay.....This would be a great time to change-out that old Orange Lens and buy yourself some Clear Lens....You have to break the old Lens away from the base and use some Model-Airplane Glue around the edges and glue the new Clear-Lens to the base.....also, you can buy a Chrome coated Bulb that burns Amber when turned-on...this keeps the Bulb from looking Amber when the lights are off. Get rid of those old ugly Orange looking things....The Clear Lens looks so much better!!!!

I think it depends on the color of the car. I'm perfectly pleased with my car's amber side markers. As was Mr. Lawson.

Not being sarcastic but if you look on Ebay you will see the marker as it would be if its out. Then you will know what we mean by push in from one end then lift out.

As others have said above, just move the assembly (lens) front to back or back to front to release one of the clips on the end and remove it. To reinstall just reverse the procedure. I replaced my side markers with leaper badges. Honestly, I don't remember even needing any tools other than some finger pressure.

Cheers!

Billy, can you give me a source for where you got your clear lens? I am aware of DRC and Adamesh in the UK.

dfbender,

eBay motors usually has a set on their Site....,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the other (2) always have a set or two....but Today eBay is out!

Get a couple and be sure to get some clear "Airplane Glue" as you will have to remove the Amber Lens and glue on the Clear ones.

They are worth the time..Just Pop off the Amber and Glue on the Clear.....Be sure to order a couple of the Chrome Bulbs that Blink in Amber....Also, you can get a set of Clear Blinker Lights that will replace your Amber Turn-Signals and as Chrome Amber Bulb for that also....They will replace your Blinker Signals or your Jaguar (Leaper).....The Leapers are wired for Blinkers behind the Fenders...Push the Leaper either forward or Backward until it releases and there is where the Blinkers are!

dfbender,

When you get all the parts you need let me know and I will help you through the process...The last set of Clear Marker Lens came from Adamesh along with a tube of glue that you need to order also. They also have the Clear Blinkers, which are Beautiful....You should get a set of those just to look at, as they are beautiful. Adamesh has access to these Blinkers and I have only seen them in one other place...both in England.....

Let me know when you have everything...

Billy, I have ordered the clear lens (2-3 weeks delivery coming from UK). What PN do you recommend for bulb? I’ll order model airplane glue today.

This was the right way to do it. Worked slick, just put an old yoga mat on the garage floor and popped it out. Wasn't sure how to get the burned out bulb out. But it twists out first, then just pull the bulb out. Looks like the base broke off, but you can see the wires coming out of the bottom of the bulb. Simple replacement.

So what was the right way to do it? When you lie underneath can you easily see the piece that needs to be popped out or is there something that needs to be removed in order to see it? The side marker on the driver's side of my car keeps popping out a bit towards the rear and I keep pushing it back in so was thinking about replacing the piece eventually.
