Default Side mirror removal?

I need help. My painter is trying to figure out how to remove the body color outer cap on the side mirror. I know on my XF, the mirror pops out and I can access the color panel but how can I remove the cap on my XK8?

Pop it out with a slim plastic pry bar from the bottom of the panel.

And that's from the outside lower, right above the Dorchester grey trim.

Question. I'm debating on the trim finish. I know I want black but when we held gloss beside the new brown, it seems to fight. My painter wants to use a satin trim black. Opinion? I'm fried on decisions!! I still think gloss looks more expensive but ?????

Btw, what do you think about the color? Oh, and I'm swapping the grille for my stainless one as well.

So the body color panel just pops out on the side mirrors just by prying on the bottom?

YES - it's held on three plastic pegs with tubular spring clips (item 9).

(this is an X308 but they are the same design)

Ease the back cover away from the Dorchester Gray body evenly or the pegs can break.
