Just wired funds to complete a long distance purchase (MI to SC) on a 2001 XK8, Titanium/Oatmeal, with 42k miles. Clean Carfax, and previous owner was religious about maintenance through this 11 years of ownership. He traded it in on an 2011 XKR. I had an Indy in MI spend 4+ hours with the car in his shop for the PPI. Overall quote from him "amazing example of a Jag!" Whew!
Detective work on my part turned up that the 'vert's hydraulics issue has been previously resolved; tensioners still hanging over my head, but after speaking with a respected Indy here in SC, he tells me he can troubleshoot it upon arrival for $150. Sounds reasonable. Everything else checked out perfectly - with the exception of what was described as an intermittent slight smell of burned oil. Searching the forums it seems the general consensus is a valve cover gasket dripping onto exhaust manifold. No obvious signs of leaks were found during inspection - either on the ground or on/in/around the engine. I'll have the Indy here in SC check it out for me when he looks at the tensioners.
The wealth of information on this site and the willingness to share/advise was instrumental in my decision. Many thanks to all of you - and I CANNOT WAIT for the transporter's arrival!

mc,
Welcome to the club. It looks like a beautiful example and with so little mileage. By the way, the faint occasional smell of burned oil, I've experienced and fixed when we changed the tensioners and put new gaskets. With the mileage, it's doubtful the tensioners were changed, so I would definitely check them first thing, and then replace immediately if they are the plastic originals.
Otherwise, have a great time.

A lot have members have mentioned liking the color. I TOO like the color.
Your car is a twin to the first XK8 I looked at, while shopping this Spring. It was at a Jag dealership in Naperville IL., a wealthy suburb of Chicago.
Always Dealer serviced, never crashed, low miles, etc.
After looking at others, I went back to buy it and of course, it had sold....
It was my favorite color, of all I had looked at, until I found a Bright Blue '05 with white leather (that I passed on due to a "rebuilt" title).
I finally bought a silver one, and the silver has grown on me....
I also like the pastel blues and greens (seafoam I believe)...

I remember the first week of ownership, I had the valet at a 5 star Chicago restaurant, park my Jag.
When my lady and I came out, standing at the curb with two or three other couples, and my Jag pulled up under that skyline.......I was emotionaly struck. It was like a dream that the Jag was mine. I couldn't have felt any prouder of a brand new Rolls....
That feeling THAT MOMENT ALONE was worth 1/2 the price I paid for the car.....it was AWESOME
