Default Son was surprised by my "badass" car.

My son is 21 and in college in Raleigh about 30 minutes from here. He didn't know I bought an XK8. Tonight my wife and I went into Raleigh for dinner. I was driving along and my phone rang. Here's how the conversation went:

"Hello."
"Dad, are you driving a Jag?"
"Uh, yeah. I bought it about a week ago."
"Oh man! I was sitting here at the stoplight and saw this badass car drive through the intersection. I thought to myself "Damn! That's a badass car!" Then I thought I saw you driving it!"
I laughed and then said. "So you like my car, huh?"
"That thing is awesome! When do I get to drive it?"
"As soon as you graduate from college, get a job, and start paying for your own insurance!

Anyway, my son apparently likes the car.

That's funny... I've graduated from college, have a job, and pay my own insurance, can I drive your car?! :-)

....and, I suppose, since I dropped out of HS at 15 and it took two tries just to get my GED, I'll NEVER get to drive the car!

Haven't you heard, it's never to late to get your degree... That leaves you with the last two requirements, I think the government is looking for some highly qualified census workers, and Geico keeps telling us that you can save a lot of money on your car insurance!

Hey, college guys are hard to impress, so I would take that as a serious compliment. Great story.

Steve, you can drive my car (but I'll need a small deposit)

And I need a degree becaaauuussee????

Who knows, maybe the next time I'm in NC, the good Reverend will let me jog alongside the Jag. That way I won't impose upon him, not having the proper academic credentials (and all), yet get some good exercise too...a mutual benefit!

badass. could be on a licence plate! Last year I was putting some fishing tackle into the trunk of my XK8 and a father and his 10 year old walk by and were quite impressed. As they moved on, I hear him say "Stay in school son".
These cars keep providing a lot of fun stories.
Congrats on your new cat.
Alfred
