Speaker replacement in 99 XK8 with HK.
Hey guys,
So I love the new Arden XK8, but the stereo is a major dissapointment. Simply stated, it sounds horrible. My 01 with the Alpine stereo actually sounded decent, especially once I hardwired an aux into the CD changer harness and ran an ipod through it using the line out audio on the dock connector.
So I'm kind of stuck. I'd LIKE to keep the car as original in appearance as possible (aka factory head unit). BUT since all the audio travels via AI net, to keep the factory HU, you need to keep the factory amp.
So I guess my first step is replacing the tired 13 year old speakers and seeing how it sounds. Does anyone know the speaker sizes off hand? I THINK the rears are 6.5's.
Has anyone done this... Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
George

I replaced my speakers and it made all the difference. I got Kickers and this link will show you how to do it. Link JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

I will order those kickers from amazon. Seems theres a new model, but these are still available so I will stick to them since they have been proven to work well.
I do have one question. The peg that the tonneau cover clips to, is that actually a screw that has to be removed? I looked at it and it does have a nut shape at the bottom of it.
As far as the front. I happen to have a JL c5-s 6.5 component set laying around. I think it's a pretty straightforward swap, but I wonder the ability of the HK amp to effectively drive them.
Take care,
George
