squealing brakes
Still working on my intermittent starting problem but thought I'd throw out this question since this also annoys me. When I come to a stop the brakes sometimes not always squeal quite loudly. Dealer states pads are good, just get some sort of glaze on them from me not hitting the brakes hard enough when I stop (?) States there is nothing that can be done until I replace the rotors and pads. Rotors definitely have a lip on them but seems to be no point in replacing them while the pads are good as they can't be turned anyway.
So I'm not abusing my brakes enough? There is a little old lady with a 2004 XK who has never been seen going over 50mph in our area and her brakes never squeal. I doubt she is taking it out late at night to burn rubber.
If there is nothing to be done, what kind of pads do I look for when the time comes to replace them that won't have this kind of problem? thanks!

If you decide to change the pads, I would go with a true ceramic formula (Non Ferrous material) They will tend to squeal less because they are less prone to humidity and keep the wheel clean as well as the dust flys off due to low resin content. I do manufacture the best Ceramic pads :0) but i have no dist in FL...

It's also good to grease the shoulders of the pads, because on the Rs with the Brembo setup the pads actually move inside the caliper.
I ended up lubing the sides of the pads and using a small brush to lube the rub strips at the top and bottom of the caliper that the pads sit on.

+1 on the suggestions given.
But before you do any work on the car, you might just want to take it out to a safe place and do a couple of dozen really, really hard stops. That may be all it takes to remove the glaze and solve your problem....seriously!
