Default Steel wheels?

Hey all! New to the forum. Have purchased a 2001 Jaguar XK8 that was saved from the scrapyard. It's my second XK8. I really want to go with a mid 60's race kind of look for this build. I have spent the past few days trying to find someone who makes a steel wheel for this model to no avail. A generic steel wheel is fine. I am starting to think I may have to make some serious adjustments to get one to fit, in which case I will just stick with the current wheels. Was hoping to do something a little more unique.

Hey neighbor. I can kind of imagine what you are going for as to me the X100 is kind of E-type retro looking. I can't point you to a source, but I go to local car shows all the time and frequently see wheels like this on 60's muscle cars. Even on the Celica Supra forum, years ago we got Boyd Coddington to reproduce our 14x7s as a 17x8. One of our members did all the CAD work and we had to raise $25K worth of orders. The idea was to maintain the classic look but with the larger diameter enabling us to choose something other than a BF Goodrich TA radial. I'm not suggesting the Chevy rally per se, but maybe find out what custom wheel companies cater to the resto-mod and pro-touring builders and see if any could offer something to fit the X100 in a retro look. You probably have to find a supplier that builds wheels to custom offsets as a two or three-piece design as custom machining a single piece design is cost-prohibitive for just one set. Good luck and I hope to see it at a local show next spring.

Are you looking for a specific size?

There are steel wheels out there with a 5x120.56 (4-3/4) bolt pattern.
For example: https://www.summitracing.com/search/...3A5-x-4-3-4-in

You will need to shop around and do some math to see what offsets will work for an x100. The one thing you may need to do is modify the opening for the hub depending on what you find and then use acorn nuts to make the wheel lug centric. I went this route for an old truck restomod about a year ago.

shplando,
Our 5off Jaguar Wheel hub studs (M12x1.25) have a Pitch Circle Diameter of 120.65mm (or 4.75inch) with Centre Bore Diameter of 73.9mm. As you have discovered, this limits after market wheel choice.
Just an idea, but you could consider ‘PCD and CB adaptors’ to enable fitment of Steel wheels you desire. There are some sets available on a well-known auction site but they’re not cheap !! See pics:-

I also love that truck, not to highjack the thread. I looked for some rally wheels like the ones shown above to fit my SUV to replace my OEM's. No luck. If it was a full size monster it would have been available. Bolt pattern size was the biggest issue. Had the OEM's powder coated by the same local that fixed my XK8 wheels after I curbed them. DOH! 38 Ford with a 90s restomod. Looks more or less correct from the outside, underneath is Lincoln Mark VIII suspension and drivetrain. Air ride, IRS, 4.6L 4 cam V8. As an aside, this project is how I got standing EFI and all that, which I’d never have been able to do the twin screw on the Jag without.

Had some trouble with tires rubbing in the front which is what kicked off the search for wheels. Those are 18s from RT steel wheels. Needed a pretty high offset in the front to keep them tucked in and somewhat less in the back so it would look right. I did have to open up the hub area on the wheel to clear the spindle and then got them powder coated to match the striping and other trim bits.

You can get custom steelies made if want to but it’s an awful lot of money for what you get.. My dad complained the whole time that in his day “We would just cut the center out of the drum and weld it up with whatever offset you wanted”. Some arts have, in fact, been lost.

Oh wow a fellow Fort Worthian! What a small world! You get exactly what I was going for! Absolutely nailed it with the E-type reference. I have had these two things saved for some time but can't find a set to match.

Really like the idea of the homage and I think it would be super complementary to the lines of the Jaguar. Thank you for the advice and I will start asking around locally to see if there is anyone who can modify wheels or possibly call a producer and ask how much custom sizing would be. Might start a seperate thread for that depending on what I find.

Also I scoured your images of your Supras and my LORD what a beautiful collection! Super appreciate anyone who takes the time to save classics like that. Those wheels in 17in was such an awesome idea. Look forward to staying in touch and hopefully I will have a drivable jag in a few months and we could go cruise!

Yeah the center hub has been my issue really. I noticed down the comment below this one recommended some adaptors and I normally try not to use those but I think they will work for this build just fine. Not trying to build a race car or anything.

BEAUTIFUL TRUCK! My other project is a 1969 F100 mated to a 2009 CVPI. Managed to buy them both for $2500 total and got to the good part before my gantry crane got back ordered two months. Will pick it up this project again as soon as it comes in.

This is a great idea and I think I am going to try this route. I normally hate using adaptors as I just can never trust the quality (have been burned before). I forget that there are pricier options with better quality materials. Thanks for the advice!

Rotiform has a set of wheels (model STL) that look like steelies but are forged aluminum.

Wow! Nice find! With a custom center cap to mount spinners, that might do it.

Did you ever put together a steel wheel option for your Jag? I like the 60s steel wheel look, too and have started wondering what my options are.

This dude in Taiwan just posted on Face book that he has retro forged steel wheels available : www.jaegesheritage.com

No prices posted but I've inquired.
