I put a rebuilt one with a 3 year warranty in, last week on my 2002 XKR. Price was about $325 plus $100 core charge which you get back after sending your old unit back. There are a number of companies on ebay which is where I got mine. I chose the company I did after calling them and getting warranty info plus they were in San Diego, close by, so that I could get it in one day. Just look up XKR steering rack on ebay and many entries will come up. This is the link to the company I used. They were very helpful, shipped the unit within an hour of me ordering it, and I had it on the next business day. I believe I spoke with a young woman, named Nicole.

How do you know you need a new rack?

I was replacing the headlight bulbs last week and turned the wheels to their extremes while the engine was off. I felt a shudder for a few days after that. Wonder if I somehow damaged the pump or rack by turning hard with all of the systems off.

I got one from Rack Doctor(XKR SERIES - RACK DOCTOR - Quality Rack and Pinion Remanufacturing) last year for my '97 XK8. The above link is for the XKR. Their cost is $239.95 plus $100 core fee free shipping and Life Time Warranty. These are re-manufactured units from Genuine Jaguar Originals. I've had mine on for a year now with no problems. Just put 3000 miles on it this summer too.

Thank you for your advice
I have asked ZF's dealer for rebuilt parts and they said US$1200.
(new one cost US$2500)
I have asked some shop in USA but they do not have a parts for RIGHT HAND DRIVE vehicle
So,
I have asked for compatibility of this rack for my XKR.(easier to get a parts for other model ex.xjr xj8....)

Thanks

2000CAXK8,
One afternoon, a couple of weekends ago, I was driving home from playing golf, dropped my friend off at his house, and smelled some fluid burning. When I got home about 5 minutes later, a large pool of oil (or so I thought) began puddling under my car. I did not think it was power steering fluid, because in my previous experiences with p.s. fluid, it was always red. This was very oily and golden. Not knowing exactly what the problem was and certainly not wanting anything to ignite, I had the car towed into my mechanic the next morning. He informed me that the rack was leaking. He replaced with a rebuilt one that also leaked immediately, and then I ordered another one. I have to say that the steering is quite a bit different than that of the previous rack, it is stiffer and just different, but I'll get used to it.

If you can source a seal kit , perhaps from the U.K., it will be cheaper to ship than a complete rebuilt rack. You could then get a local company to rebuild it.It's also worth checking whether the LHD and RHD seal kits are different - wouldn't surprise me if they are the same - that would give you more potential suppliers.

Any recommendations on the type of fluid to use while we're at it?

I have a super minor leak that I'm keeping an eye on weekly, but need to top off.

Hi
I am using stp's steering fluid (can see at Steering Fluid by STP® | Power Steering Fluid & Stop Leak)
I feel less leakage now than when using normal steering fluid.but never stopped.

Anyway it needs repair (changing oil seal)
I found a shop can change oil seal with less charge.
I will bring my xkr there next month
