Steering Wheel Adjustability....
Took my wife's 2006 XK8 out for some regular exercise this morning. I can move the steering wheel in (towards me) and out (away from me), but the up and down movement control is not functioning. What is the usual suspect in this case?
Is it off completely, or does it move one short bump at a time? Alternatively, have you tried to repeatedly activate the up or down knob to check for movement? How about the memory function? The term to search for is "tilt".

- As the variable resistors measuring the tilt position get "dirty/greasy/off", they need to be cleaned out. Apparently, this "repair" works, but only for a while.
- For a not-completely-understood reason, cutting off a wire (blue?) to the tilt motor harness restores the working order of the tilt function. (I have opted to do this a long time back).
When I attempt to move the steering wheel either up or down using the control knob, the motor will engage for one short "bump" in either direction, then stop. That is all I get. Attempting to replicate a "bump-bump-bump-bump" sequence to get additional movement does not work....

It's actually a White/Blue wire, easily identified once the cover is off.

Here's what I have heard. Others may be more knowledgeable.
The tilt motor has a built in safety feature that when it encounters resistance it turns the motor off so it doesn't overheat. This causes the wheel to stop moving. Cutting the blue white wire seems to disable this feature. Perhaps the bump, bump, bump stops for a bit of time, perhaps not. Concern is that the motor overheats and causes other, collateral damage.
I just faced this problem and fixed it by replacing the tilt motor itself. It was a bit price, but voila, no more sticking.
