Default Steering wheel stitching color ?

Howdy Folks:
I am getting ready to repaint my Antelope (AGE) steering wheel. The stitching is black but I am questioning if it was color matched (painted) at the factory or if it was dyed over later. The air bag stitching is Antelope, while the steering wheel grips stitching is black either due to wear or original intent.
I can go either way, paint or mask the stitching.
Does anyone know how it was originally?
Many thanks!

I've checked photos of my previous 2001 XK8 steering wheel and the stitching was the same colour as the leather.

My 2005 XK8 has contrasting stitching on the seats but the steering wheel stitching is the same colour as the leather.

Going further back, my 2000 XJ8 and 1996 X300 steering wheels both had matching stitching and leather colours so I suppose this must be the factory 'original'.

I would personally make both stitching on the wheel the same.

Graham, thanks for the detective work.
Phil, I agree that keeping the stitchings the same color is easier on the eyes.
I will be painting the stitching along with the wheel, hopefully this week.
Again guys, thanks!

OK folks,
Here are pics of the wheel.

Things I learned:
  • How to remove the airbrush nozzle cover the hard way (Really)
  • How much stirring / shaking to get the paint consistent(More than I thought)
  • Not to touch before dry( Don't ask how I learned)
This is the paint I used:
JAGUAR ANTELOPE (AGE) Leather Repair Pigment Dyes With Unique Applicator Sponge | eBay

Neat work.

There's many suppliers of leather re-colour kits like the one you used and I haven't read a bad report of any of them.

Has to be the lowest cost improvement possible on a Jaguar!

I have 250ml of Gliptone Oatmeal (AGD) to do the rest of the interior. After seeing how little is needed, I may have a lifetime supply. I will do a separate post when complete (Assuming that it will be a success)

Excellent work - the leather looks brand new.
