Default stripes?

Have any of you experimented with "racing" stripes on your XK8 or XKR's? Lemans or other? Center or offset?

No, and I don't think I ever will. I used to own a red Mazda MX5 (Miata in the US) and I did once order some stripes off eBay. When they arrived, I placed them over the car to see what they would look like... and immediately put them in the bin.

+ 1...I'm all for making the car your own, but stripes just aren't right, for a number of reasons.

Default Pin Stripes

My Black 2000 XK8 came with 1/16" Silver and Tomato Red stripes along the shoulder. After some recent body work I took them off and replaced them with an identical professional body shop product from 3M.

The new stripes are fresh and bright and I receive a lot of compliments. I think thin stripes look appropriate on a triple black car and accentuates the swell of the fender haunches nicely. I also ran a stripe down each side of the hood to highlight the form there. A lot of detail gets lost on a black body...

The 3M products are different than the tape you buy at the auto parts store. It is very, very thin and delicate to work with. After you lay the stripe you remove the top layer of protective tape. The stripes become soft and sort of gel-like when they hit the air. You can quickly reposition one line to make a point or arrow at the end but you have to move fast.

They "dry" to a paint-like finish without the hard thick edge like cheaper stripes.

stripes aren't really to my preference on this model but if you like the pic above with the union jack, I wonder what it might look like on a BRG car with the stripes painted in varying shades of green in place of the red and white. kind of like ghost flames i.e. http://turboera.com/wp-content/galle...ost-flames.jpg

Oh. It's the UK flag in an almost ghost treatment. Very interesting, indeed. Just like you said (I should have read the text first).

Frog;

The stripes are interesting, but the black wheels are attracting my eyes too much.

Remember the old narrow two stripe treatment that was more in front of the driver? I think Triumph and some others used it quite a bit.
