Smile Strut bearing

I came across this part that I believe is the replacement part that goes bad in the upper front strut mounts. Am I right and has anyone had any experience with using this part?

Thanks guys

EZ,

That's a part for the X-type model, not XK8 / R, at least according to the site. And having rebuilt my front strut and mount assembly, I don't recognize that part.

Nope. The XK8/R shock mount is a rubber or poly doughnut sandwiched between two metal plates. One plate has three studs that mount to the fender well.

What is the best way to check if these shock mounts need replaced? Is it a visual check, or is it felt by driving or is it a noise obvious thing? Mine look O.K but he's 16 years old and I would like to be sure things are right. Any opinion/comments appreciated.

Look at the shock nut from inside the engine bay(under the plastic covers on the suspension towers) - if it's way off centre the mount has perished - you will also(at that stage) be able to lever it around with a screwdriver. The other sign is a noise that sounds like birds tweeting emanating from behind the dash whilst driving- that's caused by metal to metal contact when the bushing crumbles. The ride height will also be lower but that's not definitive because other stuff(tired springs etc.) can cause that.

I was thinking that it might be the foam donut in the middle that was listed. There is another listing that I hope I can include with this post. It is the whole part

Jaguar UPPER MOUNT FOR FRONT SHOCK - C2S44944

That's ALSO a Jaguar X-TYPE part, as the listing says. Not XK8 or XKR.

This is what you are looking for:

Somebody posted recently that they couldn't find the pattern parts in stock anywhere.
