Just picked up my new 1999 XK8. The convertible top will not operate. Resovoir is empty on hydro pump. Am aching to drive her with the top down but it won’t budge!! Trying to open manually.

I have released the latch with Allen head and opened valve on pump, both directions. The top will push up out of latch but from there I am afraid I am going to break something. It will not go beyond 2 inches away from latch!! Any ideas? Thanks again in advance.

Try this recent thread for info. The eminent Gus has a method and there’s link in the thread on how to “gently” push on the convertible’s hinge mechanism.

The previous owner probably drained the system as he had a hydraulic leak. Trouble is the latch mechanism tends to get blocked with congealed old fluid as the Thread above found out.

 

Figured it out! On mine you have to press and unlock the linkage on both sides and the top goes down ! Thanks for the replies I’m sure I’ll have a few more questions
