subwoofer cut-out size
[97XK-8 conv with premium system
It has two speaker boxes for the alpine sub-woofers. The speaker box enclosures are p/n: LJB4151BA LH for left rear and LJB4150BA RH for the right rear.
Looking to replace these subwoofers.
Does anyone know the exact size (diameter) of the cut outs on these boxes?
It should be somewhere in the 5 to 6 inch area.

Thanks Gus. I saw this most helpful guide that you previously published and I will have it with me when I do the work. The kicker that you used is no longer available and now I am looking for a speaker where the inside 'basket' will fit into the cut-out. The Kicker that I am looking at is kicker model CompRT 43 cWRT671 wired for 2 ohms. It needs no less than 5.5 inches to enter the box. If not that, I think that I will re-cone the existing subs.
thanks again Gus

Call Crutchfield and see what they have as a replacement for the kickers.

I already consulted with Crutchfield. They recommend the Kicker that I mentioned in the previous post, but they are unsure if it will 'drop' into the cut-out. Their recommendation requires 5.5 inches for the basket, but again, the mystery is the size of the box (enclosures)

While they may, as you say, 'fit', these speakers contain a tweeter as well as the sub
Yes - which is basically redundant but doesn't do any harm. There's an "active crossover in the amplifier, so those speakers don't get sent any high frequency input anyway. As you may be aware, there are also mid-range speakers in those enclosures too.
I'm sure there are other, perhaps better units available, but those fit 100% with no modifications and, in my opinion, sound pretty good as long as you don't turn everything up to 11.

Yes - "proper" enclosures. There are two drive units in each - a bass 'woofer' and a mid-range unit separately connected to the amplifier.

I think that we have different enclosure boxes as mine only contains a single speaker. Perhaps it is because you have the UK model
see attached (hopefully I succeeded in attaching it)

Interesting !!
S N G Barratt's parts catalogue doesn't list speaker enclosures so difficult to check part numbers. Wiring diagram doesn't make any distinction and shows two mid-range rear-quarter speakers which, in your car, seem to have gone AWOL !!

JEPC reports the part numbers for the rear enclosures as LJB4150BA & LJB4151BA for the earlier cars, and LJD4150BA & LJD4151BA for 2000MY on, which I believe was when the ICE changed from HK to Alpine. It makes no distinction for market.
The Alpine system only has one (low range) driver in each rear enclosure (see attached 2001 JTIS snippet).
Googling the first set of pns brings up pictures the same as yours, DD, whereas the second set shows yours, sre, with the single driver.
sre, since your pdf pic. shows the later part number, I imagine that the enclosures were swopped out somewhere along the line.

Thanks David and Michaelh
The picture that I posted came from the Crutchfield I have not opened the back panels of the car and for that reason, I cannot be sure if the picture that I did post is actually what I will find.

If you have the Harmon-Karden premium audio system, there should be a mid-range drive unit in each of those rear enclosures in addition to the bass speaker unit.
This was mine with the original damaged drive unit. You can see the two separate connectors on the left hand side for each of the two speaker units.

Thank you David. I do have the HK premium system, but until I take my 97 apart, I wont know for sure what is in there.
Are you saying that the mid-range speaker is inside the enclosure that you pictured? And what is the part number of your pictured enclosure?

The part number of the unit in the photograph is LJA4151DB so I assume the other side is LJA4150DB.
And yes - there's a separate mid-range drive unit behind the mesh at the top left. Two separate plugs for each speaker unit on the left hand side.
