Default Supercharger

I haven’t seen any info on this but I feel like I’ve heard people say this so I’ll ask, Can you put a supercharger on the non-supercharged xk8? I have a 2000 and I feel like I’ve heard you can just take one from an xkr and bolt it on to the same 4.0L. Thoughts?

Doesn't work like that. The normal aspirated engine has a higher compression ratio than the supercharged engine. The proven best way to get the supercharged performance is to sell the XK8 and buy an XKR. Swapping engines doesn't work because they use different transmissions, engine & tranny swap doesn't work because they communicate with the XK8 electronics.

Mechanically, yes you could do that, but it probably wouldn’t work very well.

A few of the differences between the XK8 and R: Fuel system is different, ECU is different, transmission is different, compression ratio is different.

You probably could add forced induction to an XK8 but unlikely at the boost levels the XKR has without breaking something.

Taylor,

You are talking about (2) different Automobiles.....Different Heads, Cams, Compressions.....and then all the other things that are required, such as S/C cooling and on and on! Just trade the 8 for a good R and you will be way ahead! without all the Headaches.....it's just on and on!
Maybe, if you don't want to trade-out but want more Power....Get a Nitrous System!

As much fun can be had working on a car, there’s more fun , imho, to be had driving one.

I agree with the other postings, don’t try to reinvent the wheel. You aren’t happy with the 8’s power, so just sell it as fast as you can and get The R model.
