There is no tension on them but you have to make sure that you jack the complete front end up, not only one side at a time.

Tried replacing the sway bar bushings on the XJR today, absolutely no way of doing it in the Garage on Axle stands. There is no room to get at the bolts and brackets from any angle what so ever, put the under shield back on and called it a day. Will find a good independent to fit them for me. Changed loads of these on others cars in the past bloody robot manufacturing messes everything up $500 bucks for a $40 part bloody ridiculous.

Many XJ threads lately have caused me to consider my 'clunking' that i've heard over slow bumps to be attributed to worn sway bar bushings. What I found was shown in the pic below...

The bush on the RIGHT was the driver side bushing, LEFT was the passenger side. Excessive deterioration on the passenger side bush was obviously caused by the leaking power steering fluid; it was everywhere around the area, and must've been leaking for over a year...slowly.

Here is a step by step guide in case anyone else wants to try.

The passenger side took 1 hour, the driver side 2 hours = 3 hours total. I can't believe how tight it was to get the bolts and brackets off on the driver side...absolutely NO ROOM. I had to use a small (4-inch long) 10mm spanner wrench to get the bolts off. But, I saved myself $300 labor...easy. Brutal will probably come on here and tell me he does these every day in less than a 1/2 each! lol, or I could have done it an easier way.
I only have one question, where did you buy them? I can't seem to find them for less than $30+ s pair for rubber replacements. seems high to me.

Good job buy the way. I have a 1998 XK8.

I noticed this was still getting some views and responses, so I revised the original post to include instruction to lower the car before fully tightening the sway bar bracket to allow it to rotate to its proper position w/o binding in the bushing.

bigvette, for your car, I'd get them from MotorcarsLTD, once a sponsor of this forum, and fast to deliver w/o crazy shipping prices. $8.25 ea, $5.75 USPS shipping -> part no. MJA2102CE

Thank you for the link, I keep forgetting about them. I ordered the bushings, thanks again You saved the day.

I love this forum, much better than the BMW one I am on, all help, no attitudes.
