xenophobe - that's beautiful on the door panel

Who is re-veneering your stuff?

My 02 XKR 100 has what is described as gray stained birds-eye Maple, but it doesn't look gray stained to me. The veneer on the door there is fantastic. I've also considered getting the top piece veneered, the piece that has the door handle in it.

But I'm not sure the veneer I have on my dash can be matched.

Default how to install door XK8/R wooden door cappings

Hi XenoPhobe,
Great to see you do have those walnut veneer door cappings, installed! ;-)
But how to install them? I have just recently found this forum, with advices how to remove the door panel. That is the good starting, because I have also those wooden door cappings, waiting for installation. But once those wooden parts don´t have any clips or whatsoever solution how to get them in place; how you did it? Should they be clued...?
thanks a lot!
br from Prague, Matti

I think it looks GREAT. It has a real classy look and it actually contrast with the wood and sets it off. And it goes well with the other black trim parts.I really like it. And I'm sure this opinion will put me at the bottom of everybodies list. I do love wood but the contrast is really super.

Comes down to personal preference but I think it looks great.

Preferences in order of "if it were for my car":

1. All wood dash with door panel inserts (very classy)
2. All wood dash with door caps (very old school Jag, I like it)
3. All wood dash & leave the doors alone
4. Black piano center panel (good choice on switching to the gauges BTW)
6. Carbon fiber center panel (my guess it doesn't match as well in person, and yes I know I skipped a number. That's to show how my opinion on the CF look)

But of course, the real winner is what you think as the owner. Put in what you like and be happy.

Where does one get such additions, the door inserts or caps? Are they custom made pieces or stock items from somewhere?

Well since I am a master woodworker with restoration houses, and my race cars had aluminum riveted trim, and my Jaguars all had wood,

I rather like burled walnut.Call me old fashioned.

It sort of matches the black centre console/buttons, carpets, wheel, dash top, etc. and I am now wondering if I ought not to keep it. I was going to canibalise it for the chrome rings once the elm veneer part is back, but now I'm not so sure. The elm panel is ordered now anyway, but notwithstanding that, what do you think?

I cannot see any photo. Update. Now I have logged in I can!

Very nice. I like it. I think its better without the door caps done.

First time since I have had the Jag that I spotted someone actually using the tape deck! Well done.

If you pop your car round I will do your seats for you..............

I like the CF. It matches the interior design aesthetic with the black accents and really makes the wood stand out/

If it's possible, I'd actually keep both of them in the mix and switch them out periodically, depending on my mood.

Personally Frog, I like the Wood and I like the Sat/Nav....I'm not much for those 3 " Little Gages"! My Sat/Nav works just fine and when I don't need it, I've got a great Clock! I usually know where I am but what Time is it? Not so much! Personally, I think the Jaguar Guys designed a great Car and I'm sticking by mine the way it is! I had those "Little Gages" in my 1998 Coupe and was really happy when I got my 2003 XKR with the Sat/Nav.....Wood? It has just enough!
