So last year I replaced all chains and tensioners. I had a startup noise like a slap that goes away.

So several months later, I decided to pull it apart and look. One of the primary tensioners definitely has some play by hand maybe 1/16 inch at most while the other is fairly firm.

It is the left engine side that has the play.

Anyone else had this issue?

 

when I did my chains and tensioners, I mistakenly mounted the backing plates behind the new tenisoners. Do not do that or you will push the curved ramp out and wear against the timing cover.
