What does this radiator look like to you, looks thicker then what other radiators look like that are OEM but I don't know? Thbe mountings look OEm though so I don't know either. Can anyone shed any light.
There is a TSB explaining the whole mess, but in order to fit the whole range of years for the X100, radiators come with a bleed nipple at the top. This is just for the early cars (97, 98?), Jaguar removed that bleed hose in the later years. In short, when installing a replacement radiator on a later car, you are supposed to plug that nipple somehow. I found the proper coolant plugs at the part store, but I suppose a paid mechanic stuck with this surprise leak at the last minute will do whatever to plug it up and move on. And yes, it is related to the "extra" nipple (fortunately plugged) on the expansion tank.
From the expansion tank, there should be a "back" line to the overflow tank in the wheel well, and a "front" line to the thermostat area.
I'd say there is a risk the red hose will not live up to its task, harden/break and leave you stranded. I'd say remove it and replace it with a proper plug. I bought a set with various sizes from the parts store, nothing special.
The hose goes from the resevoir to a black standard hose and then the clear hose is grafted on which goes directly into the top of the radiator. Going off the diagrams it's the intake air coolant radiator which sounds like the intercooler radiator. Might have been upgraded at some point because it doesn't look like the OEM radiators I've seen online. Much thicker.
You are right, the XKR has a separate radiator for the water-to-air intercooler. I am not familiar with the details of its plumbing with my lowly XK8. You might want to check SNG for proper diagrams of the layout of the hoses.
Will do thanks. Yea it's the bleed hose I think for the intercooler system. Either the radiator has been upgraded at some point requiring an alternate hose to where it fits to the radiator or it failed at some point and a mechanic just repalced that section of the hose. I have no idea. I have found what the OEM radiators look like though and will see if my one matches.

From the looks of it, you seem to have an upgraded aluminum intercooler. The clear hose is not standard at all. That looks like a patch job someone did instead of replacing it with a proper hose.
I'm worried that that clear hose is not made to handle the temperatures and pressure of the system.
From the front grill, you should be able to see where that hose connects to.
I think that is what the garage was worried about, I will look at getting them to change it out then I think. There isn't any record in the cars history of the intercooler being replaced but I don't think it's 100% complete. The oil radiator was repalced though at some point.
