On my 2006 XK8 - I have a ticking sound that I can hear while sitting in the driver's seat. Sounds like a sticking valve or hydraulic lifter. But when I listen under the hood, I can not hear it. It got much louder last week when it was very cold.

I found this Technical Bulletin that describes my symptoms. The bulletin says it addresses the 2003 - 2005 MY XK Range. My range. But the VIN range is A30645 - A40920.

The last digits of my VIN are A48631. Not close to the range. Doesn't even seem close.

I am confused. Can anybody shed any light on my confusion?

The purge valve from any model year can create audible ticking, especially when it is cold. Unless you smell fuel, have a fault code or find it unbearable to listen to you can ignore it.

 

would this be classed as a recall, mine was reg in sept 2002 with the 2003 spec, when ever i have looked for parts so far they have been for the 2003 spec vehicle which is when this 'recall' appears to start from. i have been hearing a ticking as described but took no notice until now. and my vin number is within the range specified. ?

 

This is a TSB (basically a technical advisory), not a recall. Usually Jaguar would only repair this for free during the warranty period.
