Default Ticking sound from passenger footwell

I have a fast ticking sound from above the passenger footwell which can be clearly heard inside the car. It can come and go with different revs but there is no consistency. This morning I was stationary and heard it so took the car out of gear and revved it, that made the noise go away. Other times it has been quiet at idle and then come at slightly higher revs. I can't hear it from under the bonnet though. I may have an issue with the heater motor as the heater isn't working as well as it should which is why I checked under the bonnet but the noise isn't affected by any heater setting.

It sounds like a solenoid or relay constantly clicking but I don't know which or quite where to look - there isn't a lot of space down there!

Any ideas?

On US vehicles the evap. control valve is in the left fender well and can tick.

I recently had the same problem in the winter. It is the Purge Valve (evap) and on earlier models there is a TSB requiring the installment of an insulation bag to muffle the noise. My 2005 XKR had the new type PV and was told I just had to live with the noise. As I don´t normally drive my Jag in the Winter it´s not such a big deal. It can sometimes be accompanied by a petrol smell although this was not the case for me.

See video:

Good Luck.

Had this in mine for the first 4 or 5 months after I bought it. It hadn't been driven much when I bought it, but is my daily drive.

Had it checked and got the same answer as Norjag, but it went away of its own accord and hasn't returned in 5 years

The noise is addressed in a TSB issued a decade ago and I uploaded it to the large file area (the one nobody goes to).

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it isn't something I need to be too concerned about then and can just leave if the noise doesn't drive me mad, is that right?
