Default Tinted back glass repair

This is the rear convertible window with a sizable chip out of the inside glass tinting. Should I pull it all off and have it totally redone or can it be repaired?

Sorry the tinted glass post was supposed to be a separate thread and I don’t know how to fix it.
Moderator help!

I've separated the "tinted glass" posts from your "wheel" thread and put them in this new thread.

As Sod's Law would have it, I bet it's visible in the rear view mirror and is just plain annoying.

Lots of experience here in tinted glass in Bahrain. Unfortunately, tears in the window film are generally not repairable. In your small case, even if you could get a film patch , your location is over the window's fine heater lines, so you can't even "square it off" to fix a proper patch.

After-market window tinting cannot be successfully patched; it would look like a patch and you'll definitely hate it every time you looked in the mirror. Not to mention that you'd run the risk of cutting or scraping off part of the defroster wire, ($$$). It's relatively inexpensive to have the entire window tint removed and replaced.

Thanks guys. I have owned lots of cars but never had aftermarket tint applied to any of them. Is one brand better than another? I am looking for something as close to original looking as I can get.

3M is hard to beat, but there are several manufacturers that make good products. Consult your local YELP! website for reputable installers near you, then check their websites to learn about the claims their offerings. Heat-blocking tint is considerably more expensive than standard light-blocking tint, but well worth the cost if you live in a hot and sunny summer climate (like here in Las Vegas).

Got the rear tint removed and replaced for $130. Very pleased, looks good as new again. The other
estimate I got was $180 so shop around.
