Default Toad

Hi,

I searched the forum and could not find the answer to my question. Can a 2003 - 2006 be flat-towed behind a motorhome, or does it need to be on a trailer? What about using a tow dolly? Is this addressed in the owners manual? The vehicles that are towed behind a motorhome are called toads, in case anyone is wondering why this question is titled "Toad". Thanks.

I have attached the 2 pages from the repair manual for recovery. Flat towing in Neutral is for less than a mile and not over 48 miles per hour. The XK can't be towed from front it must be from rear. If you had a tow setup for rear tow you would be ok.

Personally I'd buy a microcar for towing behind a motorhome...but it won't make the same statement as the XK....sommat like this

I have been towing behind a motorhome for over 20 years. Chevy Trackers, Suzuki Grand Vitaras. All four wheel drive that can be flat towed, requiring minimal additional equipment. No matter how you protect them, they takes a lot of abuse.
When I got my 2004 XK8 convertible last year, I really wanted to bring it along for my summer travels. However, based on my past experience of some 200000 miles of having a Toad behind, I came to the conclusion that the only way to bring a Jag, would be in an enclosed trailer. I am still looking for one. In the meantime, the old Suzuki has to come along
Would be a shame to expose a Jag to Toad abuse!

I never thought about the abuse they would take. I am curious b about your towing experience behind the motorhome. Can you PM me, so as not to change the focus of this thread into towing experiences? Thanks.

Couldn't you just remove the driveshaft if you wanted to tow it?

I remember that to be partiuclarly annoying on this car.

On my old lumped XJ6 it is something that can be done in less than 5 minutes with a floor jack and two wrenches.

Technically yes! However not fun or practical. You may be in a muddy wet campground and want to head out for dinner. Now what?? The reason you have a Toad is for transportation, when needed. You are not just moving a car from A to B
