Default Top Fluid Replacement

Getting warmer outside and now my top is opening slower and shutting slower than usual. It sounds like i am low on fluid. I have searched for threads on just doing a flush and restore to my tops hydraulic fluid is low. I have not yet looked at the unit but was wanting to know exactly how to flush and re-fill. If i run the pump out of fluid to get all the old stuff out will that hurt my unit? I know about the different colors and have found what to put back in and read many people recommend to change the fluid if it is yellow anyway. I do not even know if the previous owner has had the green monster rain down or not so I will add the voltage reducer as soon as I find the parts for that. Just need a little guidance on what to do to with the re-fill!

Thanks in Advance!

The green hydraulic fluid doesn't need to be flushed and with a '99 you probably have the Pentosin. It was the old yellow fluid that thickened up. Just fill the reservoir to the full line.

If you just got to flush it the TSB that called for the flush directed that the reservoir be turned over to empty it, refilled and then the lines at the upper latch are disconnected and the fluid pumped into something like a milk jug.

Here is the actual TSB if you want it:

I used a syringe kit purchased at the local drug store. I put on a piece of small tubing and sucked out the old fluid and replaced it with new fluid. Over the next few days I cycled the top about 10 times and repeated. The litre of Pentosin is enough to do this 3 times complete. You don't have to remove the pump to do it. My original fluid was dirty but after doing this precedure it is clean and top works like it should.
