Default Top Hydraulic Puzzle - Latch works, top doesn't

I have been struggling with my top for a few weeks and I got a new clue. I just replace the rear passenger window regulator and that is when my top problems started. I had to open and close it manually for that job and maybe something happened when I did that. Here are some pertinent symptoms:
,
  • The computer sequence is now working fine, it will go through full sequence including rear panel windows and latch
  • The Latch works fin
  • The top does not go up or down
  • I can easily open and close the top even with the pump valve closed, this seems to me to be the key
So it seems like the line to the top is not pressurizing.

A few other facts:
  • I have upgraded hoses, I got them around 8 years ago. The aircraft-quality brake line ones
  • The hydraulic fluid seems fine. Since the latch is working that tells me it is probably fine also

Ron (RJ237) and I spent some time on it yesterday and thought it was the modules but now I don't think it is since it is running the full sequence. Thanks for your time yesterday Ron.

It looks like you are getting close. The latch works, therefor the pump is running? Yesterday the pump would quit after about 30 seconds or less.
If you can move the top manually with the valve closed, either the valve no longer seals or one of the ram cylinders has total seal failure. But that would result in fluid pouring out of the cylinder, I think.

I don't think the pump was quitting yesterday, I think I just did not hold the switch long enough when the top wasn't moving so we thought the pump was not working.

Okay, but when you released the switch the top immediately collapsed, but I think there should have been some residual pressure. I'm going to visit my car Tuesday afternoon and I'll mess with the top a little. I almost never put it down so I'm relying on my fading memory.

I think I found the problem. I must have broken this when I was doing the rear regulator. Does anyone know what it is and what type of connector it was before I busted it?

I can't quite make sense of that. If it's an electrical connection at the top of the cylinder it's probably the limit switch. If so, it might explain why the pump quit as the top was almost all the way up. You would probably have to replace the cylinder, but Top Hydraulics may be able to repair it.

So it turns out the connection that broke is just an electrical connection that snapped off. I am putting in a new one and will give it a try. I am posting some pictures in case this happens to someone else. The ram itself seems fine, the suction is still strong. Fingers crossed.

The bottom one is the one that is still in good shape so I took pictures of that one also.

Everything is working now.

I broke the first rams electrical connection when I was working on the rear window. To replace the regulator you need to unhook the top and I did not reattach the ram correctly when I put the top back on. That led to an unbalanced lift that actually bent the other ram. I reconnected the first ram and was able to straighten the rod of the second ram with a vice and hammer.

All is working as designed......
