Default "Top not latched" message. How to kill it?

I have a 2002 XK8 that has had the typical green shower problem. Someone before my ownership has converted the hydraulic latch to manual as well as an auxiliary switch to operate the rear windows. It works out great. No big deal to close or open the latch by hand.
However the "top not latched" message will not go away. It does not matter if the top is up or down. I have tried to "trick" the computer into thinking that the operation is happening by timing the sequence, but it will not be fooled.

My question is this....is there a scanner that I can buy that will allow me to selectively turn off this message? If not, could a dealer do it? Is there a workaround that I have not thought of yet? Please don't suggest that I restore the stock configuration. That ship has sailed.

Thanks

Scanners are not going to turn off that message. The indicator is controlled by a normally closed micro-switch that engages when the top latches. You will need to pull off the latch cover and find out why the switch is not setting. It should set even when a normal operating top has to operate in the "manual mode"

Lanny,

This is a model specific question. As such, it should have been posted in XK8/XKR forum and not in General Tech Help. Please post future technical questions about your XK8 in the model forum.

Are you closing the latch manually with the allen key?

Yes, I am using the allen key. I actually made a little Jaguar emblem as a handle for the key so it looks like it belongs there. That does nothing toward my problem though.

There's a pretty thing now!

I've moved your post to the XK8/R section so the top experts will see it.

I still think it has to be a switch problem somewhere.

Lanny, take a look at the "manual latch" link in my sig. line below. Try following the procedures given there for raising and lowering the top.
