Trac/abs fail thoughts
On my1999 XK8.
Traction control/abs fail message has recently been coming on while driving and will immediately come back on every time the car is restarted that day but is gone after sitting overnight. The next day, start car, everything seems fine but once driven about 15kms it comes back again.
I've read many threads about cleaning wheel sensors and resoldering contacts in the module but haven't seen this type of symptom mentioned so thought I'd see if anyone has experienced similar or has a theory before I get started on trying to fix. Just seems odd that it resets itself overnight?

Before 'throwing parts' at the car or leading us all on a mystery hunt, please get the DTCs read from the ABS module.
(or we can all guess for a week or two)
The codes you need are C (chassis) codes.
There WILL be at least one C code logged in the module and will lead you to the faulty part/sensor.

exactly the symptoms I had on mine before i soldered the module. no issues since soldering. I'd wager good money its the module. Its heat and vibration sensitive when its on the way out so the 15km of driving makes perfect sense to me. exactly what I was seeing on mine.

I have a 2002 XKR. my icarsoft LR v1 reads C codes as well as the drivetrain etc ones. It’s about $100 on Amazon IIRC. It’s been superseded by the icarsoft LR v2 which has more features for cars made recently. But it costs more and doesn’t do more for our older cars, so the v1 is a better choice IMHO.
The scanner is finicky, and some forum members have had issues getting it to connect. So there might be better alternatives. And the icarsoft customer service is nonexistent. Another negative, if that matters to you.
But I’ve had no serious issues with mine, just the usual figuring out the Chinese way of doing operations which seems unintuitive and backwards to me. It does come with instructions in English, but they are limited help like most such instructions.
All things considered, the icarsoft LR v1 reads codes and can display most info I require. Such as engine and transmission temps, throttle position percentages, and the specific codes like what you see needing to know.
you can search the X100 forum for “OBD-2 code readers” and get a lot a material to sift thru. Which I recommend doing , there’s likely a better choice out there than what I’m using, but as mentioned, I’ve got no real complaints about what I use, it works just fine with a little patience.

Just to follow up, I ended up with a thinkscan S5 plus scanner which does read abs, engine and transmission codes. Supposed to read srs as well but I couldn't find it. Seems decent for what I need and was under $150 CAN. Fault code sure enough is pump power so it looks like I probably need the abs module solder fix. That's as far as I've got with it. Hopefully get some time this weekend.
