TRAC not available, ASC not available, ABS indicator always On

TRAC not available, ASC not available, ABS indicator always On
When the yellow light first came on and the "TRAC not available, ASC not available" did not go out after the "system start up " test my first guess was the "speed sensors" needed cleaning?
So, I cleaned all 4 sensors as per video and still the indicators stayed on!
I tried to remove the indicators using my ODB machine but this did not work either!
I now believe the fault may be electrical?
When I try to operate the "TRAC OFF" button on the console nothing happens?
The very small red light inside the "TRAC OFF" does not illuminate when I switch to On & Off.
The "seat heater" switches next to the "TRAC OFF" switch do Illuminate the internal red light and I hear what sounds like a relay clicking?
With the "TRAC OFF" switch I do not get any red light illuminating or hear any relay type sound when I keep switching between On & Off.
Is it possible the "TRAC OFF" switch is faulty?
Is it possibly a fuse?
Is it possibly a relay?
Oh, also the (ABS) indicator is always on, on the Rev. Counter in yellow.
I would really appreciate any input you can give me to solve this annoying problem.
Many thanks, David

Hi,
sounds like your ABS module. There are posts on here about cracked solder joints inside the module. Also you can check the resistance of the wheel sensors with an OHM meter.
from the connector at the module. Does not need to be reset as once fault is repaired abs indicator wont appear.

You probably have to look at things in order, cheapest first.
As you did already, check the sensors. Pull them out in turn, and check the reluctor ring. Double check the rubber boot and the section of the wire from the sensor to the harness.
Next, you may have to check the ABS module itself. There are a few posts on this forum already. The gist of it is that the module has to be removed, and either be sent for repair, or the case has to be opened and the power posts re-soldered.
All of the prior steps are the do-it-yourself/flying blind approach, which is great, to a point.
Alternatively, someone (like the dealer) with the factory tools can run diagnostics and get codes that can point you to whatever, like a specific corner. Then, you can swap sensors or to see if the fault codes changes, pointing to either the sensor (rare) or the harness (more common). If the codes are inconclusive, I suppose the module itself is at fault and can be rebuilt. Folks mention ASI all the time.
Best of luck, keep us posted.

This happens about once a year on my '99. Remove the air hose from the filter box to the throttle body, just unscrew the bolts holding it to the throttle body and move to the side. Take a thin blade screw driver and disconnect the large electric plug on the right side of the throttle body (from inside of car). The thin screw driver is used to raise the plastic ring that holds the ends of the plug together. Now take contact cleaner and hose, drown and really clean the ends plug pieces. Re-assemble and enjoy the drive.

My wife started our 2001 Jaguar XKR this morning. Three warnings showed up: trac not available, ASC not available, ABS indicator on same as title of this thread). She shut the engine off.
An hour later, I started car. Tried to reset fault indicators with my OBDII tool. No luck. Took car for a slow ride, maybe 30 minutes. Parked in driveway. Wasted some time - cleaned rims.
Started car. All failure-warnings disappeared.
Any ideas anyone?

My 2001 Jag XK8 had the same issues and we followed the fix outlined on how to repair section.
Pulled the ABS module. Took a Dremel with a thin cutting wheel and split the module on the seam. Bought a small soldering iron and re-soldered the leads coming into the module. Bought a tube of that black silicone sealant and resealed the module. That was over 6 years ago and have not had that code since.
I think the repair price at the dealer would have included a price of 3K for a new module alone. We spent about $25 on the soldering iron, solder and black silicone.
I did spent a $100 previously at harbor freight to buy a OBDII code reader. So of course we erased the code following our repair and it has never come back
I was obvious when we looked at the leads that their was a light ring around the wire where it was attached on both wires indicating the seal was broken from vibration, I suspect.
I had also done the dance of taking off the wheels and cleaning all the sensors thinking that was the issue. No such luck. Checked all wires and fuses first too.
Lets hope your fix is an easy one. Let us know how it works out.

Robert,
I had same symptoms as you. It would go away usually by restarting the car, and then reoccur hours or days later. I fixed it by removing and cleaning the sensors. Like on Denny's jag it was the front driver's side sensor that was the culprit. Of course, rather than a dirty sensor, it may have been a bad connection which was rectified by either diconnection/reconnection or cleaning of the connector.

Repair and control module
sorry, transmitted before I could paste text
This REPAIR KIT will work on all
1997 - 2004 JAGUAR XJ8 XJ6 XKR XK8 and Vanden Plus ABS Control Modules.
PLEASE, MATCH IMAGE OF ABS MODULE PICTURED WITH YOUR ABS MODULE.
You are not buying the actual part.
Known problems:
- ABS light is always on or intermittent
- ABS, Brake and Traction lights are on
- ABS pump constantly running
- Trouble codes for ABS pump motor circuit (C1095), or speed sensor signals codes.
Considering the massive amount of 1997 to 2004 JAGUAR ABS control module
failures, we perfected a repair kit with updated components that can withstand high
pressure. We will also repair weak points known on those modules to prevent it from further failures.
For years and over a thousand of those ABS modules being repaired we
have practically no warranty returns.
You will send us your bad ABS control module (only the electronic part
aka "brain box"). Please do not send the whole unit - only the control module
box. We will install REPAIR KIT, test it and return it to you.
No additional programming required.
Rebuilding your ABS module is much better and cheaper then buying a used
or new one. Every used and even new unit has the same manufacture flaw
inside that make it fail over time. Plus, you just install it back
and it will work right away with no programming needed.
Installation instructions for DIY are available, though it is
recommended to do replacements in a professional mechanic shop. You can
still drive the vehicle with the ABS control module removed, though we
cannot take any responsibility for failures that may occur while the
module is removed (again, the removed module should not affect driving
performance). We recommend taping plastic around the hydraulic part and
the electrical plug that remain on the vehicle to prevent dirt and
debris from getting inside the unit.
Please be sure to pack it well, include a copy of your Paypal payment
to identify yourself and your contact phone number
and send it to:
MODULE REPAIR PRO
5911 Lemona Ave
Van Nuys, CA 91411
Priority mail with delivery confirmation is included takes 2-3 business
days. Optional overnight is available during checkout.
Please ignore the handling time stated in the shipping details. We have customers all over the world and have to account for the amount of time it may take for their modules to arrive at our repair shop. Actual repair time is 1-2 business days from the time we receive your module.
REPAIRS DONE TO YOUR ABS control module comes with a LIFETIME warranty.
Dealer price is around $1200.
We need and expect you to read the listing for "How It Works" and all general questions,
please only dial eight one eight four two nine four eight eight nine if your question wasn't already answered.
Disclaimer:
The ABS light can illuminate for any malfunction in the ABS or traction
control system, including failure of ABS module, speed sensors, wiring
harness and plugs, etc. We cannot diagnose what exactly the problem is
with your vehicle, especially over the distance. It is your
responsibility to pinpoint the problem on the ABS module. We recommend you take it to
the shop, where mechanic can read ABS trouble codes with the appropriate
scanner (able to read ABS codes on European vehicles). In some cases
there are multiple problems for different components.
Please, do not send us any salvage yard units - most of them have water
damage and non-repairable. Also, if numbers on the original and
replacement units are not the same - this unit will not work on your vehicle.
If you or someone tried to repair ABS module - we can evaluate and
possibly repair it, but only in case that no additional damage was
created.
If your ABS module is beyond the repair point or no failure is found inside
ABS unit - we will return it to you per your request and refund your
payment minus return shipping cost. Cancellation of EBay transaction is
required.

Hello JagXK8-2001. That's a great name for your forum handle. I read your response with great interest. I earlier posted that the problem fixed itself. Low and behold, it returned for two drives, then disappeared again. I opened the hood (bonnet) and located the abs control module. I was not able to remove, because all the hydraulic lines scared the hell out of me. As a temporary attempt, I sprayed the area with de-greaser, hosed off, and drove the car. No warnings. I would like to do what you described, but do not know how to remove the abs control module safely. Can you help?
There is a whole section in the how to repair part at the top of this forum that leads you by the hand on this repair process. It takes some time but its easy to do.
I think this is the link to the repair. http://www.jag-lovers.org/snaps/snap...?id=1230845126
We did not remove any of the brake lines, only the through bolts that attach the module on the back of the ABS unit. Read through the repair several times before start your work to insure you are comfortable.
You will find more info in this section: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/
scroll down to the traction control section and you will see the ABS repair link
